PM on Bank Robbery: Difficult Situation in Zugdidi Ended without Casualties - Georgia Today on the Web
A truly grave occurrence ended without casualties in Zugdidi yesterday, Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia stated at the Executive Government Meeting today.

He noted that operating search actions are in progress and a key task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is to continue work until its final resolution.

“It was only a task of tier one. Of course, the result achieved so far is our citizens, life and health of hostages under no threat any longer. It was only a task of tier one. We should all understand it well that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the system of public order have the most pressing task today. This grave offender should get detained instantly, in the shortest period. It is the main task now. Operating search activities are in progress and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia should certainly execute this duty. All their lawful tools, rights and possibilities should be utilized to achieve this goal to make sure that nobody gets a perception of crime being left unpunished in the country. It is the main task which is dealt with by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and it should continue its actions until the final resolution of the case” stated the PM.

He also spoke about the process of management in view of the pandemic and noted that the adaptation and management stage, which the country is at present, requires more responsibility to be demonstrated by each citizen.

The Prime Minister spoke about the importance of adherence to rules and noted that if 90% of citizens wear facemasks, the community transmission rate will decline by 70%.

“Yesterday, another daily anti-record was set globally with over 400 000 new cases of COVID infection and the total number of contracted people exceeded 41 million all over the world. Many European countries have witnessed anti-records and we also have a significant rise in the number of infected people in Georgia. The adaptation and management stage, which we are at present, requires more responsibility to be demonstrated by each of us. Everyone knows how effective a basic face mask is. We spoke with epidemiologists today as well and they confirmed that if 90% of our citizens wear facemasks, the community transmission rate will decline by 70%” noted Giorgi Gakharia.

The Head of the Government once again urged the citizens to comply with regulations and safeguard each other.

“Nobody invented more effective tools against the global pandemic than facemask, social distancing and basic personal hygiene. That is, we should altogether care for each other and adhere to rules. Otherwise, the community transfer rate will be increasing fast, thereby causing more damage to our economy and our citizens. That is why we should better care for each other by demonstrating more responsibility and we should primarily safeguard the elderly as they are at the front line of the risk group,” he stated.
